We have been told for the longest time thatis the most important meal of the day and that to achieve significant weight loss we have to have breakfast. But why? Well I am going to tell you why in the next few paragraphs. I will tell you what happens when you do eat breakfast and the consequences of missing this important meal.
Before I begin do you know why this meal is called “breakfast”? Because it “breaks” the “” that you have endured since your last meal which is usually dinner. Presuming most of us have dinner at 6-7pm and rise at roughly 5-6am the following morning, it could be 10 hours since our last meal so breakfast really is breaking the fast.
So, with that in mind, we also know that we need a high rate ofto burn fat to lose weight. But our metabolism only kicks in when we eat. What I mean is, when you eat, your body tells your metabolism to get to work. This guy is eating something so you better start burning up what has been deposited already. If you do not, the next meal will get stored as body fat.
In essence, you have to eat to lose weight. Skipping meals does not work. Actually, you could find yourself gaining weight by skipping meals. Our metabolism worksin the morning because, like all our organs, they have had a long rest and work best after a rest.
Upon rising we need to kick start that metabolism. Put it to work. The best way to start the process is by having a glass of warm water with a dash of lemon juice. Swill it around your mouth for a few seconds before swallowing. This has been found to be a great kick starter because of the fact that lemon juice helps the digestive system. Wait 20 minutes and sit down to a balanced breakfast. I have the following:
Small bowl of cereal with a banana chopped up with it. ( no sugar)
2 pieces of wholemeal toast with egg on top.
Small but filling at the same time. Our glass of lemon water earlier has added to us feeling full and content. I follow up a few hours later with fruit, usually an apple or a pear. My other meals for the day are mapped out but that is for another time.
Now the consequences of not having breakfast is that because your metabolism will not kick in until you eat, waiting till lunch time or even mid afternoon tells your body to hold everything. Hang on to all you have. I do not know when this guy is going to eat next so just chill out and do not burn up anything.
Therefore it gets stored. Ideally you want to get into a routine of eating at the same time each day. This way your body gets accustomed to when it is being fed and acts accordingly. Make sense? Sure.
Missing breakfast for a day would probably have no consequence at all but missing it continually will have. And usually without you knowing it. It creeps up on you. Because you have not fed your body for over 12 hours it cannot and does not function to it’s true capacity. This can have disasterous effects.
Firstly your concentration is not what it should be. Your alertness drops. This can be fatal if you operate machinery or drive a vehicle for your job. An interesting statistic is that over 80% of workplace accidents happen in the first 30minutes of work or the last 30 minutes before knock off time. This can be attributed to the fact that concentration is not where it should be.
Eating breakfast really is vital. It is the call sign for your body to wake up and get to work. The benefits are enormous. A new body shape, an alertness you haven’t had for years and peace of mind that you are fuelling your most important asset. You. That is why eating breakfast is important.
Breakfast is vital in any health regime. It is the kick start you need on the way to your weight loss goal or any other fitness plan you undertake.
